Keep Active Like Santa This Christmas – Without Missing the Fun!

15 December 2024

Christmas – that magical time when mince pies are practically a food group, drinks flow like the Thames, and your gym gear gathers more dust than your nan’s attic. But who says you have to wave goodbye to your fitness just because Santa’s coming to town?

You can still enjoy all the festive fun AND stay on track. Here’s how to keep in shape this Christmas without becoming a grinch or missing out on the turkey and trimmings.

1. Get Moving – and Make It Merry!

Forget boring workouts in a cold gym. It’s the season to turn fitness into festive fun! Round up the family for a wintry walk or get stuck into a snowball fight (bonus points if you peg one at Uncle Dave). No snow? No problem! Crank up Mariah Carey and dance like you’re at the office Christmas party. You’ll burn calories and make memories – win-win!

2. Pig Out – But Be Smart About It

Yes, you CAN have that extra mince pie. But if you’re shovelling in pigs in blankets like they’re going out of fashion, maybe slow it down. Balance the naughty stuff with some nice – load up on those veggies and go easy on the creamy sauces. Think of it as a food version of "good cop, bad cop" and you’ll come out on top.

3. Water – It’s Not Just for Reindeers

Sure, the mulled wine is calling your name, but don’t forget good ol’ H2O. Staying hydrated helps you feel less like a stuffed turkey and more like your jolly self. Add a slice of lemon or a handful of cranberries to keep it festive. For every glass of booze, try to sneak in a glass of water – your body (and your hangover) will thank you.

4. Home Workouts – No Excuses!

Can’t face the gym? Stay home and work up a sweat in your living room. Do some push-ups off the sofa, squats with a sack of presents, or even bicep curls with a bottle of bubbly (don’t drop it!). A quick 20-minute workout will keep you feeling good, and you won’t even have to miss the "EastEnders" Christmas special.

5. Rest and Recharge – You Deserve It

Christmas is chaotic, so don’t forget to chill out. Get some solid kip, put your feet up, and take a breather. Whether it’s five minutes of peace with a cuppa or a full-on nap after lunch, rest is just as important as all those steps you’re tracking.

Stay Merry AND Healthy!

This Christmas, you don’t need to choose between fun and fitness. With these tips, you can have your cake (and your mulled wine) and eat it too. So go on, enjoy the festivities – just remember to sneak in some movement, hydrate, and balance out the indulgence.

You’ll hit January feeling jolly, not jaded!
